Biography

Christopher Manning is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Moonlake AI, inaugural Thomas M. Siebel Professor in Machine Learning in the Departments of Linguistics and Computer Science at Stanford University, a senior fellow of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), and a General Partner at AIX Ventures. He served as the Director of the Stanford AI Lab (SAIL) 2018–2025. Chris was a leader in Statistical NLP in the 1990s and 2000s and then a pioneer in deep learning Natural Language Processing (NLP) from 2010, work for which he has received three consecutive ACL Test of Time Awards (for 2013–2015) and the IEEE John von Neumann Medal. He is the most cited NLP researcher in the world, and he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2025.
